Wilson, Birgit

January 1945 - June 2022
Birgit Astrid Wilson (nee Baumgartner) January 29, 1945 - June 12, 2022 It is with deep sadness we announce that Birgit Wilson passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side after a short and sudden illness. Birgit is forever loved by her daughter Danielle (Steve) Nagtegaal, and grandchildren Rianna and Ava Smith. She is sorely missed as big sister to Steve (Karen) Baumgartner, and by her many nieces and nephews. In 2020, Birgit lost her beloved husband and partner of 50 years, Stanley Wilson, and has now been reunited with him in the hereafter. Born in Stendal, Germany to Lissi and Frank Baumgartner, Birgit arrived to Kitchener, Ontario in 1953, and spent her formative years in Scarborough, eventually settling in Ajax, Ontario. Birgit enjoyed a long and rewarding career in office administration. Birgit was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud and nurturing grandmother, ever-loving sister and caring daughter, looking after her parents in their later years. She loved to dance, meeting her husband Stanley at a YMCA dance and carrying on this passion for dancing throughout her and her families lives. Birgit was the life of the party! She was a vibrant, social woman with a healthy, active lifestyle and will be greatly missed by the many friends and acquaintances for whom she cared and adored throughout her life. Birgit had an unbreakable, ever-present bond with her only daughter Danielle right to her final moments, and she treasured and greatly respected her son-in law, Steve. She loved spending time with her family and took great delight and joy in her home, garden, cooking and celebrating family traditions. She adored sharing her life-long journey with her "little brother" Steve. Birgit especially cherished the time spent with her two grand-daughters, Rianna and Ava, actively participating in their lives, and celebrating their every accomplishment with pride. She was a strong and brave woman who survived both breast and colon cancer with dignity, and cared for her husband unwaveringly through his lifelong battle with diabetes. Birgit loved to shop and had a wonderful sense of style- she was always well put together and accessorized, made up, coiffed and classy! The family wishes to thank the wonderful Doctor Masri and many doctors and nurses in the ICU at Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering Hospital for their compassionate care of Birgit throughout her brief illness.
